Arugam Bay's Main Point has been breaking hearts and boards since the 1970s when the first travelling surfers discovered this remote eastern outpost. Today it's a thriving beach town with a long surf season running from May to October. Main Point caters to experienced surfers with powerful right-handers. Nearby Pottuvil Point and Crocodile Rock offer equally excellent breaks. Beginners should head to Baby Point or hire one of the many local instructors. Beyond surfing, Arugam Bay is the gateway to Kumana National Park and some of Sri Lanka's finest untouched beaches.
